Company Introduction

The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) is the government agency thru which a grateful nation pays its debt of gratitude to her defenders - the Filipino Veterans. PVAO serves to fulfill a national commitment as embodied in Section 7, Article XVI of the 1987 Philippine Constitution: "The State shall provide immediate and adequate care, benefits and other forms of assistance to war veterans and veterans of military campaigns, their surviving spouses and orphans. Funds shall be provided therefore and due consideration shall be given them in the disposition of agricultural lands of the public domain and, in appropriate cases, in the utilization of natural resources." The agency's mandate is further defined by Presidential Decree Number 1, series of 1972 as implemented by Letter of Instruction (LOI) No. 19, and reiterated in the Administrative Code of 1987. Based on this legal mandate, PVAO's mission is "to deliver veterans benefits and services with utmost dedication, efficiency and compassion to improve their general welfare and perpetuate the memory of their heroic deeds." The reasons for its existence is summarized in its three major final outputs - the administration of veteran's pension and benefits program; memorialization of veterans' heroic deeds; and policy and management services for veterans' affairs and welfare. In addition to its function of providing benefits and services to veterans and their families, PVAO also recognizes its loftier duty to produce quality population or citizens with strong love for country and to prepare its future defenders. Thus, it contributes in sustaining peace and the rule of law by preserving and promoting military shrines that memorialize the heroic deeds of our veterans and serve as constant reminders that the freedom enjoyed today is not free and had been paid for by the lives and countless sacrifices of our veterans. It also cultivates historical development and awareness by supporting researches, documentations and publication of untold stories of past military campaigns and battlefield victories and widening citizens' participation during commemoration activities. Further, it intensifies the advocacy to propagate public appreciation of the veterans' heroic deeds, thereby fostering unity and providing inspiration by developing a sense of national pride especially amongst the Filipino youth as future defenders of the country. The agency is headed by LtGen. Ernesto G. Carolina, AFP (Ret), Administrator.
